For the 12th game in a row the American League deafeated the National League in the All Star game. The American league won 4-3 and Jonathan Papelbon getting the win. It's 2nd time in three years that a Red Sox player was credited with a win (Beckett got the win in 2007). Carl Crawford got the MVP award after taking away a homerun from Brad Hawpe preserving the tie ball game allowing the American League take the league for good in the 8th inning. Jason Bay and Kevin Youkilis each got a hit, however Josh Beckett and Tim Wakefield did not get in the game. Josh Beckett picthed on Sunday so he was going to be only used in an emergency and Tim Wakefield would have been used if the game had gone into extra innings.
The Red Sox have an extra day off during this all star break and resume play on Friday when Clay Buchholz gets the call up for his 2009 debut against the Toronto Blue Jays.
